Monitoring of frequent hand washing with the Hygienalyzer Test is based
upon the fact that the skin surface on the front wrist junction of the hand repeatedly rises from a range of 4.0
- 5.5 to a range of 5.8 to 7.5 after proper hand washing (see Figure below). Immediately after washing the hands, the
skin surface pH commences to fall toward baseline values. Frequent, repeated hand washing enables the skin surface pH to remain
range bound, above pH 5.5. A 62% alcohol 'waterless' hand sanitizer has been developed that makes possible
the monitoring of frequent hand sanitizing practices in that same manner as described for frequent hand washing.
